eBay Inc. is an American multinational corporation and e-commerce company in which people buy and sell goods via Internet based auction style sales. Amazon.com is an e-commerce company that enables customers to sell their products and fulfill orders through the companyââ¬â¢s websites and the seller s own websites. Both of these sites sell a wide range of products, from clothing and fashion accessories to large electronic goods. Though these two companies both began as an online-based company that links buyers to sellers, they have evolved over the years to incorporate each otherââ¬â¢s more successful elements. However, there still are some key differences between the two websites. To most people, Amazon is a retailer company that sells products to consumers, but eBay is an online-auction house where consumers congregate to sell their goods to one another. Up until recently, eBay has been considered one of the most successful internet-based mega-firm that has been discussed and studied by several expert economists. However, recently, Amazon has expanded vastly while eBay has experienced what is thought to be downfall that even the article ââ¬Å"Why Amazon Should Buy eBayâ⬠appeared in the New York Times. This has been well demonstrated in the market value of the two companies. Not many years ago, market value of eBay was 3-4 times higher than that of Amazon. However, because of recent innovation in Amazon, their market value up-trended 150% to 45 Million dollars whereas eBay stillShow MoreRelatedTaking a Look at eBay Inc.978 Words à |à 4 PagesIntroduction As the majority of us know, eBay Inc. is an American based (Headquarters: San Jose, California) multinational corporation that is dominant on the internet for consumer-to-consumer product or goods sales. eBay Inc. was founded in the year of 1995 as a personal project by its founder cum creator, Pierre Omidyar, for his personal goal of assisting his wifeââ¬â¢s personal hobby of collecting Pez dispensers. Development Of The Psychosocial Concept Of Socialization
Overcoming Parentification as an Aspect of Negative Socialization Many factors may contribute to the development of the psychosocial concept of socialization. Socialization is the process by which an individual learns to adapt to their own social environment. This concept of socialization also closely relates to the ways in which we handle and behave in social encounters with others. It also plays a vital role in oneââ¬â¢s own developing image of self. The socialization process is a natural and often subconscious progression that begins to take effect on a child initially at birth, and aspects of socialization continue to influence that child into their adult existence. One may argue that socialization is most detrimental early into the lifespan when the child is in the home setting with the primary caregiver, often times this parental figure is not consciously aware of their vital role in the childââ¬â¢s developing social processes. As the child grows, other factors influence their social development such as peers, cultural norms, gender nor ms, and ideas about morals and ethics. When one examines certain criteria of the socialization process to include aspects of parenting and attachment styles, facets of cognitive development and psychosocial development, one may note how these collective experiences along with oneââ¬â¢s ability to assimilate and accommodate can influence and facilitate either a positive or negative socialization experience. What are the key elements? How different is it from the way the firm has historically operated? His vision for MS was to ââ¬Å"be the worldââ¬â¢s best investment bank and the Firm of choice for our clients, our people and our shareholdersâ⬠. The key elements for reaching this vision were: management to assume not just the role of being a manager , also the role of a real coach for itââ¬â¢s team , a pipe through with best ideas to flow and a on the job trainer for itââ¬â¢s subordinates ? certain freedom given to the employees for being innovative and take risks but aligned with companyââ¬â¢s policy ? have a team oriented approach at global level ?put a real emphasis on people retention and development ?give clear direction and clear communication within the company for common objectives ? stop evaluating individually , and change the was to a collective evaluation ? ave total changed the mngmt behavior and get their total support ? We think that the way J. Mack started is very good by getting peoples under the same ââ¬Å"umbrellaâ⬠and putting them together to work to a common goal, prize them, reward them up to their team accomplishments; allowing them to know each other under informal meetings; letting the people to feel that they are making things happened, getting their commitment and forcing the to interact and communicate. An accent should be put in our opinion on cross selling activities ââ¬â way that best results can appear fm a certain business and maybe a reorganization of the company , based on industry profile of serviced customers (e. g. for customers in commodity industry maybe a division should have been created and those employees to be able to offer the whole range of products and services to that customer without to force the customer to talk to a lot of people and sign a lot of separate contracts)-promoting the ââ¬Å"One face to the customerâ⬠concept.

Three Protagonist Characters free essay sample
This essay mainly concentrates on differences between teenage boys, problems they deal with and boysââ¬â¢ relationship with adults. Most experts of young adultsââ¬â¢ literature agreed upon characteristics that have historically defined the genre that a protagonist is a teenager and events revolve around the protagonist and his struggle to resolve conflict (Pam, p. 49). In short stories discussed the three main characters are teenage boys. They differ from each other in their age, appearance and behaviour. All boys in stories are of different age, Charles is from eight to thirteen years old, Peter age is not directly sad, but he is at age that his father ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢wants me [he] to learn to driveââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Tuohy, p. 124) and finally, the third boy, whom name is not mentioned, is 18 years old: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢they had been studying for ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ levels togetherââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ levels ââ¬â a British exam taken in particular subject, usually in the final year of school at age of 18) (MacLaverty, p. We will write a custom essay sample on Three Protagonist Characters or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page 110, 121). The narrator tells the story from his childhood flashbacks when he was a very young boy. Age differences show distinct perspective on these boysââ¬â¢ behaviours. The appearance of the boysââ¬â¢ are also described dissimilar. Peterââ¬â¢s look is represented as it is not important, the narrator just comments on his voice: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Peterââ¬â¢s voice thrum like a slack guitar stringââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Tuohy, p. 124). This simile allows the reader to create a visual portrait of adolescent boy. In Bernard MacLavertyââ¬â¢s short story the boyââ¬â¢s appearance is also not explained. However, Penelope Lively in her story describes Charles appearance in detail: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢The child had black hair, slicked down smooth to his head. His ears, too large, jutted outâ⬠¦laced with tiny, delicate veins. His clothes had the shine and crease of newnessââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Lively, p. 102). It is evident that it was taken grate care of his look to show the importance of Charlesââ¬â¢s appearance in the story. Moreover, the behaviours of the boys separate them from one another. Charles through the entire story says no word, he blocks with a wall of silence. Only from his facial expressions the author allows the reader to understand the boy: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢His face is haggard with anticipationââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Lively, p. 105). It shows that Charles is unhappy and miserable. Another character Peter in the story is acts like a typical adolescent boy who is not very friendly with adults: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Please donââ¬â¢t always try to shut me out, Peterââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Touhy, p 124). This passage shows that Peter is rude and he disagrees with adults. The third character is a boy in his flashbacks of his childhood, he is interested in everything that it is not familiar with him, he wants to know everything: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢What is this? / Who is that in uniform? / Was your friend killed in the war? ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (MacLaverty, p. 114). All these questions create the image of the young boy who is nosey and importunate. ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Young adult authors and publishers know that adolescents can be impatientââ¬Ëââ¬Ë (Pam, p. 64) for that reason authors have to create different characters and the differences they all have are making their personalities more understandable to young adultsââ¬Ë literature readers. According to Pam (p. 63) the issues discussed in teenage literature are morality and religion and the modern-day novel, however, can browbeat the reader with a social issue. Teenagers deal with all types of problems in their adolescence period. In these short stories protagonists deal with different problems more frequently related with social issues. For instance, in ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Secretsââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ the young boy confront the problem of betrayal and deception, he is the one who is betraying others. Nosey boy reads his auntââ¬â¢s letters that he is not allowed to: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢You are a dirt, and always will be dirt. I shall remember this till the day I dieââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (MacLaverty, p. 119). He offends his aunt by disobeying her will. The boy betrays his aunt and by this action he shows that he is too young to be reliable. In the short story ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Next Term, Weââ¬â¢LL Mash Youââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ Charles faces the problems more related to teenagers, it is bulling. Charles is threatened by boys of new school: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Next term, weââ¬â¢ll mash you, we always mash new boysââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Lively, p. 105). This phrase shows that Charles is no exception, he will be bullied like other children and they just warn Charles what he could expect. In the third story ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢The Licenceââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ the main problem Peter deals with is adolescence. It is a difficult period in boyââ¬â¢s life as he is no longer a child and not quite an adult. Peter has a lot to cope with in his life because of the recent death of his mother: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢He hid under his handkerchiefs the photograph of his mother, and the letter she had written to him before shie diedââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Tuohy, p. 127). Peter hides the letter because he does not want everyone to know what pain he is feeling, for teenagers it is common to hide their feelings in order not to get everyoneââ¬â¢s attention. To conclude, problems discussed in the texts are often used in young adultsââ¬â¢ literature, they are as follows: bulling, betrayal and adolescence. The teenagersââ¬â¢ stages in life when they are feeling the most misunderstood are depicted. Relationship between adults and teenagers are the most difficult because they do not understand each other. In addition, all three boys in the three different stories disagree and misapprehend with grown-ups. Firstly, in the story ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Next Term, Weââ¬â¢LL Mash Youââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ the relationship between Charles and his parents do not exist, his mother is asks him all kinds of questions but never hears the answer. Parents do not care about Charles willing, they decide to send him to school before listening to his opinion, and just after agreement the mother ask politely: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Would you like to go there, Charles? ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Liveli, p. 105) even they have already decided to send him. Treating child as he is not worth an opinion, makes parents heedless and careless. Furthermore, in ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢The Licenceââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ Peter is not understand by adults, his aunt claims that he is ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢[â⬠¦] just a childââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Tuohy, p. 125) although his father is telling him ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢[â⬠¦] to learn to driveââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Tuohy, p. 124). This shows how two adult characters are treating Peter differently and seeing him in different points of view, as a child and a grown up. Finally, in ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Secretsââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ the boy is treated by his aunt with care: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢She would sit with him on her knee, her arms around him and holding the page flat with her handââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (MacLaverty, p. 111), she covers the boy with love and solicitude. The auntââ¬â¢s behaviour changes after the boy reads her letters without her permission: ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Get out, get out of my roomââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (MacLaverty, p. 118). She is mad on the boy because he defy to her. Aunt changes immediately and shouts on the boy, because he is just a young boy not an adult and she does not count him as an equal. To conclude, adultsââ¬â¢ relationships with teenagers are complicated, the adults consider teenagers as not equal to them, as they do not understand them and do not stand well with each other. To sum up, young adultsââ¬â¢ literature analyse problems that teenagersââ¬â¢ frequently deal with. The authors of three short stories discuss issues of teenager characters and reveal how every protagonist character deal with problems they have to face in their adolescence life.

Drug Essay Essays - Drug Control Law, Psychoactive Drugs
Matthew Screws English 1101 Anderson 2/25/19 Decriminalize All Drugs Everyone is aware of what illegal drugs are and how people who use illicit drugs are viewed by societies throughout the world. This can eas ily be defined by what Thomas Hobbes, Rousseau, and John Locke stated in the Human Project; "For them the effectiveness of the social contract depends on our ability to obtain a satisfactory balance between what we want and what we're prepared to give up getting it. The social contract breaks down when people believe they're surrendering too much o r not getting enough in return." It is not unheard of to have laws to protect us from relatively harmful substances and not from devastating effects of other substances that happen to be legal. Tobacco causes 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from second hand smoke exposure. Alcohol claims the life of around 88,000 people annually and that number grows when looking at alcohol related sicknesses. These facts suggest that may be the public is being led astray and being taught to fear the wrong substances and into complacency with hazardous substances by allowing their sale and consumption. So why is there more concern of illicit drugs when more deaths result from cigarettes and alcohol. The decriminal ization of drugs will no longer punish harmless individuals for victimless crimes, support lower addiction rates , and improve the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they have sworn to protect and serve. In 2017 the FBI's uniform crime report showed that law enforcement made 1.6 million arrests for drug violations in which more than eighty five percent were for simple possession. That means that every twenty seconds someone is being arrested for a drug law violation. Instead of getting these people the help they deserve they will be dragged through the legal system and have the book thrown at them. Each day thousands of people are convicted and cycled through jails and prisons. These people often spend extended periods on probation or parole and are left with debt from the court ordered fines they have to pay. Having a possession charge on your criminal record automatically puts you at a disadvantage from someone without. Jobs, housing authorities , educational institutions, and many others will judge you solely because of your criminal record. Those impacted are disproportionately communities of color and the poor. Now imagine if drug possess ion was decriminalized . Police would no longer be spending millions of hours, and billions of taxpayer dollars arresting people who possess a small amount of drugs for personal use. Furthermore, drug decriminalization will lower the addiction rates by treating this as a health problem and not as a criminal on e. With drug possession decriminalized it gives addicts a way out to seek the help they deserve without being criticized so harshly by the public. A good country to look at is Portugal who decriminalized drugs in 2001. They treat addiction like an illness and people caught in possession is either given a warning, small fine, or told to appear before a local commission which consists of a lawyer, doctor, and social worker. This commission helps the offender by educating them about treatments and harm reduction. Another thing they provide is clean needles and other paraphernalia involved in using drugs. They even provide places to do it at. This is great because it takes away the stereotypical abandoned house and dirty needles situation and instead gives people who are sick a place to come without fear and make themselves f eel better again. People often do things just because they are told not to and w ith drug possession decriminalized there is also the chance that people will leave drugs alone because there is not the illegal allure that there once was. Finally, the last change decriminalization can make is how people view law enforcement. If someone is making their way down the road and they are in possession of drugs they will do everything possible to avoid police officers. There is a fear set out by the police that it does not matter what amount of drugs you have but they are going to throw you in jail

Sexism in America essays
Sexism in America essays Sexism in America has grown to be a great problem for women in this country. Sexism means ascribing superiority or inferiority, unsupported by any evidence, in traits, abilities, social value, personal worth, and other characteristics to males or females as a group. (Albee 1) Sexism defined is Any attitude, action or institutional structure, which systematically subordinated a person or group because of their sex. (Russell 1) The standard of excellence usually is the white male. There are many causes of sexism in todays society. All types of people in the world and also sometimes women commit sexism. Sexism has lead women to start organizations to prevent and help spread the word on this subject. Treating females inferior is one of the most common causes of sexism. Albee said sexism in this way is related to racism, ageism, and also many other comparable problems (1). He also thought, by treating females inferior they are some times deprived of freedom and are subject to being mistreated in many ways to the master sex (1). If the master sex which are males are true sexists they are also usually Anti-Semites, antigays, racists and bigots (Albee 1). These people are known to be emotionally disturbed and need to be taught how things should be in present day America. Sexism causes women to sometimes live a powerless, pathological existence. This is how individual members of groups are the objects of prejudice and being mistreated. Sometimes when prejudice is put upon someone so much they often accept it; and women being so light hearted are more likely to. In our world today there are many types of sexism portrayed in the media. (Hogarth 1) Hogarth stated the fact that almost nine out of ten women think the media influences them; most women felt media images were part of the problem with eating disorders. (2) Television, women being shown at home, and also inform...
